Sam’s 25th birthday is this coming Sunday, March 22nd and what a year it has been! He settled into a professional career, got married in June and for good measure has battled lymphoma since November. Along the way many, many experiences and lessons have been learned and I believe those lessons will continue as time passes. Our prayer through this time has been that God would be glorified in all of these lessons, lessons that are both good and challenging. We firmly believe that God is in control of all things and that He has been answering that prayer!
As I wrote in our last update, Sam was scheduled for a PET scan and then follow-up with his oncologist this past week. The results…. Sam is officially in remission! There is some residual scar tissue left but the PET scan showed “no metabolic activity”, a fancy way to say it is inert for lack of a better term. During this entire experience you get a little better at reading fancy medical jargon, words like “unremarkable” being actually a good word.
So what’s next? Sam will be put on a close follow up schedule with a visit to the Oncologist every three months for the next two years. Every other appointment will include a CT scan (a less fancy scan than a PET scan) which will help monitor that inert scar tissue. We are beyond thankful for this result and trust that this entire experience will be a distant memory as time passes. We also trust that the lessons learned will remain fresh as time passes and continue to shape Sam, Grace and our entire family for good.
In the short term, let’s get some hair growing again!
